With over 100.000 books, 20.000 releases, 2.000 publishers and a bunch of real-life manga heroes, the Leipzig Book Fair 2012 was a great experience for the Prototyping Interfaces Team. In cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences of Schwäbisch Gmünd, we had the opportunity to get in contact with possible publishers and had a lot of conversations with interested people from in- and outside of the design business.
In Hall 3 / Stand Nr. G-502 a wide range of projects of the University were presented with digital installations. A group of 9 people informed the visitors about the study program and more details of ours and others projects. Our book was presented with three digital installations:
A little experimental laboratory to explain the basics of interface aspects, a facetracking system and the slider installation as an example out of the book.
One of the eye-catchers was the facetracking system from the book, with witch the visitors were able to play with. In plus, the shooted pictures could be printed on our vCards. The result: Nearly 200 vCards were printed within the first 2 days … wow!
A lot of our visitors were students from other german design universities. We had some inspiring conversations with them, and it was great to hear that our book would help them in their studies. In addition to the visitors, some publishers were welcomed at our booth and got delivered a little insight into our project. So lots of vCards were exchanged and we hope that there was a publisher who intends to collaborate with us.
Overall, we had a great time at the Leipzig Book Fair. Although someone seemed to like the book a little bit too much and stole it… So if you should see someone in the park, reading the book at a sunny day, this does probably not mean that it is already available for sale ; ).
Thanks to all the people, who visited us at our exhibition booth, for the interest and the many great conversations.
